About

Journalism Science Alliance

The Journalism Science Alliance (JSA)  is a programme that aims to fuel the production of local, regional, and transnational investigative journalism backed by science through grant funding, training, mentoring and networking.

The Journalism Science Alliance (JSA) offers grant funding, training, mentoring and networking opportunities to advance investigative journalism grounded in scientific evidence. The programme aims to foster the collaboration between media organizations and research institutions across Europe to strengthen the credibility, depth, and impact of investigative journalism.

Over its 24-month lifecycle (2025-2027), the programme will award approximately 75 grants, co-funded by Creative Europe, to teams including at least one media outlet and one research or academic institution. In addition to funding, selected teams will benefit from expert mentoring on topics such as investigative journalism, science journalism, and science-backed journalism. Participants will also have access to a dedicated training programme and valuable networking opportunities.

The scope of the calls is intentionally wide and inclusive. Applicants are free to propose projects on virtually any topic of public interest where scientific evidence is relevant, needed, or can add depth and credibility. We welcome high-quality investigative reporting on issues ranging from climate change, healthcare, and social inequalities, to emerging technologies or local governance, among many others.

Media freedom and pluralism

The Journalism Science Alliance aims to strengthen media freedom and pluralism by integrating scientific practices into journalism and fostering the cooperation between media and research institutions.

Collaboration between journalists and scientists

With the support of the Journalism Science Alliance training and mentorship, journalists and scientists will work together to uncover new topics of public interest, producing investigative stories that engage audiences and serve the public interest across Europe.
